Infectious agents identified in ticks collected in Umbria Region (Italy)

2017
Food allergies are a growing health concern, also with severe reactions, which negatively affect health-related quality of life. The only precautionary measure against food allergy reactions is avoidance of the trigger food, therefore checking ingredients details becomes the mainstay in making an informed choice. Legal requirements about most common allergens labelling or information provisions have been established in Europe and other developed countries. Nevertheless, RASFF notifications related to undeclared allergens in food products have increased in recent years. The difficulties to assure reliable food allergens control are associated with the lack of reference methods, reference materials and regulatory thresholds. Thus, food allergens detection relies on the different sensitivity of analytical methods often not validated. The purpose of this study is to assess the reliability of PCR-based screening methods for peanut and soybean detection, in order to reduce risks posed by food that may contain these ingredients that are two of the major vegetable allergens
