Application of p504S,vascular endothelial growth factor and p63 in the differential diagnosis of benign and malignant lesions of the prostate

2008
Objective To evaluate the value of p504S,vascular endothelial growth factor and p63 immunostaining for the diagnosis of benign and malignant lesions of the prostate. Methods The expressions of p504S,vascular endothelial growth factor and p63 in benign and malignant lesions of the prostate were observed by microwave SP immunohistochemical method. Results Continuous positive expression of p63 was found in the acini and ducts of most benign prostatic hyperplasia, and few cases showed interrupted expression, but p504S staining presented negative reaction.Interrupted expression of p63 was found in high prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia cases, and was weakly positive or negative for p504S;p63 staining was positive in 5 atypical adenomatous hyperplasia cases,1 case presented focally positive reaction by p504S;p63 staining was negative in 40 prostatic carcinoma, but positive by p504S;The gleason histologic grading of prostate carcinoma was not related to the expression of p504S but related with vascular endothelial growth factor. Conclusion The combined detection of p504S,vascular endothelial growth factor and p63 can be the most helpful for the diagnosis of prostate carcinoma, especially in needle biopsy specimen.
