Results of Investigations of Icebergs, Glaciers and Their Frontal Zones in the Northeastern Part of the Barents Sea

2007
The State Institution 《Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute》 (SI 《AARI》, St. Petersburg) conducted a number of marine ice research expeditions in 2001~2006 in the framework of engineering surveys in the region Shtockman Gas-Condensate Field (ShGCF) in the northeastern part of the Barents Sea. One of the main objects of investigations were icebergs being very hazardous for marine hydro-technical structures, and particularly for drilling platforms that, it is expected, will be installed in the nearest future in the region of the SGCF and other oil-and-gas structures in the Barents Sea. Information about calving glaciers is essential for reliable forecast of icebergs discharge into the SGCF area. Due to this, special attention was paid to the investigation of outlet glaciers situated in the Northeastern Barents Sea.
