The diabase in the Amazonian paleozoic basins - hero or villain?; O diabasio nas bacias paleozoicas amazonicas - heroi ou vilao?

2005
The diabase sills can occur through hundreds of kilometers in a sedimentary basin. Its trajectory can be facilitated by fissile materials or diverted by lateral variations of facies and by faults. In cases where the intruded rock is a sandstone, they frequently jump abruptly, forming a variety of patterns. These rocks strongly influence the exploratory activities in a basin. The Solimoes and Amazonas basins comprise an area of almost 1 000 000 km 2. These basins are separated by the Purus Arch, also over which diabase sills occur, although with minor expression, since the natural behavior of these bodies is to follow down dip the sedimentary beds. All through the years, several papers have been delivered in an attempt to understand the intrusion mechanism, the age, the variation in the chemical composition of these sills, as well as their influence on the oil generation and also to better map the geometry of these different sills, for this is very important for the time - depth conversion (author)
