Densitometric analysis of experimentally produced periapical radiolucencies

1977
Abstract Artificial periapical lesions were created in a mounted dried human mandible. These lesions were radiographed by means of a reproducible projection technique. The developing process was standardized. Densitometric analysis of radiographs could reproducibly distinguish areas where bone had been removed. This was not true for visual interpretation of the same radiographs by ten experienced dentists.
