Teachers as researchers: Using action research to inform practice

The day to day work of a master teacher involves a cycle of questioning about the impact of their teaching: was that an effective strategy for improving comprehension? Were the numeracy links in that lesson relevant? Did using that technology allow students to transfer learning to other contexts? Was that grouping technique beneficial for all my students? Research shows that deliberate and critical reflection on teaching contributes to excellence in teaching practice (Miller, 2010).
