The Keystone 600 Set and its role in earlytwentieth-century education
2018
First released by Keystone View Company in 1906,
the 600 Set was marketed specifically for educational use. As the
name suggests, each set consists of 600 stereographs that Keystone
intended to be a comprehensive view of the world at that time. This
project positions Keystone View Company in the educational field
and discusses some of the problematic ideas that Keystone
perpetuated through these educational sets by cataloging and
analyzing a 600 Set held in the photography collection at the
George Eastman Museum. The project also aims to provide greater
access to an important part of early-twentieth-century
education.
