Improving Pedestrian Safety Using Numerical Human Models

2003
The purpose of this study was to develop and validate a scaleable mid-size model of a male pedestrian. Numerical simulation would be used with this biofidelic pedestrian model to evaluate injury risk in pedestrian-vehicle accidents and to enhance pedestrian protection when designing vehicles. Results of the simulation were correlated objectively to the experimental data. In general, the model accurately predicted the measured response.
