Role of the interfacial asymmetric spin scattering at ferromagnet-Pt interfaces.

2020
Understanding the spin transport at interfaces is essential to develop spinorbitronics. Here, we measure spin-charge interconversion in ferromagnetic/Pt nanodevices. The spin signals and the extracted effective spin Hall angles of Pt evolve drastically with the ferromagnetic materials (CoFe, Co, and Py). By assuming transparent or non-polarized interfaces, we cannot provide a coherent understanding of the high values observed. We show that a well-known but usually overlooked interfacial parameter, the asymmetric spin scattering, has to be taken into account. These results suggest that looking for transparent interfaces is not necessary for the best route towards high spin signals.
