Experimental Analysis of Fe–Cr–Al Alloy (FeCrAlloy®) Surface According to Various Pretreatment Methods of Catalyst Coating for Catalytic Microchannel Reactor

In this study, we investigated the effect of the pretreatment of FeCrAlloy®, which is known to have excellent high-temperature durability, for the development of a catalytic microchannel reactor for a reverse water–gas shift reaction in a high-temperature environment. The characteristics of the pretreated surface, which were varied according to the chemical and/or thermal surface pretreatment methods, were experimentally investigated. Chemical surface pretreatment was performed using acetone, basic solution, and acidic solution. Thermal surface pretreatment was performed according to the method suggested in the work of Katheria et al. The pretreated surface condition and composition were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Through these analyses, qualitative and quantitative analysis was conducted on the pretreated surface and an alumina whisker was observed in the pretreated substrate. In addition, the primer slurry was coated on the substrates and the adhesion test was conducted according to the pretreatment method.
