Data in the present volume are primarily for the years 1970 to 1979 and are mainly taken from statistics on Latin America provided by the United Nations the Organization of American States and the U.S. Agency for International Development. Separate sections are included entitled Demography Vital statistics and disease and Health care welfare and family planning. Tables include data on population estimates and growth rates 1774-2000; population and density by province or other major civil division; population of capital and principal cities; urban and rural population by sex; total population by sex and age; life expectancy by sex; marriages divorces and divorce rates; births by age of mother; birth rates; deaths and causes of death by sex; death rates including infant and maternal deaths; government and private family planning program participation; birth control use by method and age; and percent of fecund women.
