HTS cables for electric power transmission: Basic properties — State of the art — Prospects

1999
Superconducting, cables can contribute to cover the power consumption of densely populated areas in an economic, and environmentally-friendly way. Using high-temperature superconductors cables with higher transmission capacities, smaller cross sections and lower transmission losses can be built. In this paper we review basic properties of superconducting cables, the status, of the Siemens cable project and outline the future prospects for HTS power transmission cables.
