The potentials and limits of radiotherapy in benign diseases

: The radiation treatment of benign hypertrophic and hyperplastic, inflammatory and degenerative pathologic processes is nowadays less often used, due to pharmacological advances or to the arrival of newer low-risk therapeutic procedures. Radiotherapy of benign tumors in certain positions is mainly a special indication. Radiotherapy will be used in principle, when all other treatment means have been consumed. An appropriate procedure is necessary, considering the physical factors of radiation: quality, doses, administration timing and in the same time the radiosensitive organs and a careful radioprotection.
