Transformation of the Warrior

2007
Massimiliano Guareschi and Maurizio Guerri start from the notion that war is increasingly a repressed object in contemporary philosophy and social sciences. In their piece, the authors propose a synoptic vision of the main types of war through the presentation of the various figures of the warrior in history. By the figure of the warrior, it appears that we are not witnessing a progressive and linear reduction of the element of violence in armed conflicts. It is only through the reconstruction of the genealogy of Western conceptions of war that we can shed new light on the commonsensical assumptions that inform contemporary security logics, the representation of terrorism, and the idea that war constitutes an instrument for the promotion of freedom and democraty.
