Prolonged high frequency jet ventilation and milrinone therapy following modified Fontan procedure

Summary An 11-year-old boy who underwent a modified Fontan procedure required surgical re-exploration the next day. Profound cardiogenic shock developed and he required high frequency jet ventilation and milrinone therapy for 15 days. After 11 days of high frequency jet ventilation he developed a tracheal mucous plug leading to a hypoxic cardiac arrest from which he was successfully resuscitated.
