CONSERVATIVE SURGERY IN THE TREATMENT OF LARGE PSAMMOMATOID JUVENILE OSSIFYING FIBROMAS: A CASE REPORT

2020
Juvenile ossifying fibromas are uncommon benign tumors. Their aggressiveness added to their high tendency to recur provokes real diagnostic and therapeutic challenges for the dentist in addition to making postoperative follow-up over the subsequent years indispensable. In this case report, we present 17-year-old patient G.S.L. who sought out the stomatology service with complaints of painless swelling on the left side of the upper jaw and a slight obliteration of the nasal groove with an evolution of 20 days. After anamnesis and clinical examination, an incisional biopsy of the lesion was performed, and a definitive diagnosis of psammomatoid juvenile ossifying fibroma obtained. The treatment was enucleation, based on the previous biopsy that evidenced an encapsulated lesion not requiring maxillectomy. Because of its dimensions, an enucleation under general anesthesia was performed. The patient is currently the subject of regular observation and shows no signs of relapse.
