Fast Neutron Radiotherapy for Sarcomas of the Bone and Soft Tissue

1992
It has been generally accepted that sarcomas of the bone and soft tissue are radioresistant compared with other tumors, such as squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma. Therefore, patients with sarcoma of the bone and soft tissue have been usually referred to radiation therapy after removal of the tumor in order to manage residual tumor cells. On the other hand, there is support for the role of preoperative irradiation for those sarcomas in order to preserve function of the involved extremities.
