Identifying the high water production of RS well through cement evaluation

2021
Cement analysis has to be completed before starting to produce hydrocarbon and if there is additional water production. The water will approach the perforating zone and will produce along with the hydrocarbon, due to the longevity of the well. If this case happens, several steps have to organize to handling the water production in wells. Other than that, data collecting from wells and reservoirs also crucial. The problem analysis related to mechanics such as cementing analysis needs to be done to determine the possibility of leakage, micro annulus, or channeling. This analysis using a quantitative method, by observing the water production and the relation to the cement quality also the hydraulic seal in the cement. The analysis is done on a well, namely RS well. RS well produces large amounts of water, 1168 BWPD. Based on the geological condition, it is possible considering the position of this well adjacent to the water zone. Analysis of the hydraulic seal on the RS indicates that it has not formed yet, so it has a higher possibility for direct contact between the productive zone and the water zone. Without the hydraulic seal in cement, secondary cementing needs to be estimated to close the cement gap so there is no leakage anymore and there is no communication between the productive zone and the water zone.
