An Innovation in Teaching Poultry Management

1970
Abstract POULTRY Science 415 is a survey type course in general poultry management at the University of Florida that is open to both undergraduate and graduate students. Approximately five years ago, changes were made in the material covered in this course in order to more nearly meet the needs of students entering commercial poultry production. This change was made since it was apparent that the standard lecture type course which typifies the college curriculum does not adequately prepare the student for continuing education, such as that received in poultry short-courses after graduation. It was hypothesized that if the students were exposed to seminar short-course type presentations under the supervision and guidance of a professor, the result might be a student better prepared to make the transition from college to commercial life. In addition, the seminar type course is usually interesting and informative. COURSE DESIGN Guest lecturers are utilized in this course. . .
