A clinical observation on the analgesic effect of medical block ice on angina after tonsillectomy

2003
Objective To find a more effective therapy to relieve post-operative angina immediately after tonsillectomy. Methods 60 patients (aged 24. 5 years old in average) were randomly divided into 2 groups, one being experimental group (gruop 1) and the other being controlling one (group 2). Cases in group 1 were given medical block ice, composed of 10% glucose, somedoni and Yunnan Baiyao, and cases in group 2 were given medical block ice only, composed of 10% glucose. The medical block ice is given to all the cases immediately after the operation for sucking. Then the indexes of the time peak value of pharyngodynia appering time, the lasting duration of pharyngodynia crest, and the scores of pain in opening mouth, odynophagia and reflex otalgia were recorded and compared with that in controlling group. Results The appearing time of peak angina after operation in Group 1 was significantly later than that in Group 2, and all the other scores were also significantly less in treating group than those in controlling group (P0. 01-0. 05)- Conclusion The medical block ice prepared in our hospital is effective in relieving angina after tonsillectomy with no obvious side effects.
