Urbanismo y modernidad: La influencia de las ciudades jardín en México: 1921-1930

2015
This paper proposes to trace an overview of the development of modern architecture in Mendoza between 1930 and 1970, following the most relevant architects and their works. No government measures or legislation have ever been implemented to protect the architectural heritage of this period. There are two parallel causes for this inaction: firstly in the collective imagination, heritage as a concept pertains to any historical period up to the 1920s. Secondly, the possibility of achieving the objectivity necessary to achieve a historical perspective of modern architecture is hampered by the works’ ongoing aesthetic and functional relevance. A cultural perspective is still more difficult to achieve. We review the trajectories and buildings of a number of architects in order to discover their local singularities, thus contributing to an appreciation of these works of architecture and their subsequent protection as part of our heritage.
