Study on active silver powder for battery prepared by Ag-Mg alloy

Active silver powder for Ag-Zn battery was prepared by alloy method. Orthogonal experiment was used to discuss influence of fusion method, oxidation temperature, mixing times and acid treatment on properties of active silver powder. And then it was discussed particularly that influence of Mg content on activity of silver powder. The result show: silver powder with the best performance is prepared by vacuum inductive furnace, oxidation tem- perature 600~660 ℃, 4 mixing times, and 24 h to set down after acid treatment. The alloy with 22% Mg is the optimal material for activity of silver powder. Silver electrode was made to assemble batteries. Voltage and capacity have been much more improved under the same circumstance by comparing with the batteries of which electrode made by traditional method.
