The main objective of the participatory training initiative is to strengthen indigenous peoples organizations and to increase their options for ethno-development, interpreted as socioeconomic change that is determined by them and is compatible with their specific cultural values. The overall approach is described in the below paper. This paper includes the following headings: introduction; the training participation initiative; projects implemented by mid-1998; and conclusions.
