Evaluation of dry electrodes for sEMG recording

2018
Dry electrodes have become an innovative option to acquire high quality biosignals while occupying less space, eliminating the use of gel and the waste of disposable electrodes for each measurement. To prove their characteristics, dry stainless-steel electrodes were built for sEMG recording, then, their electrical characteristics were obtained, including impedance, frequency response, measure of the signal-to-noise ratio and features of the acquired signal to prove that is useful. The values obtained in the different tests are within those reported for commercial electrodes. Dry electrodes have many possible applications ranging from diagnosis, to therapy or assistive devices, since they do not cause allergies, or use gel and have a size that can be customable to a specific need.
