GPenSIM Support for Petri Modules

2021
This chapter presents the extension to GPenSIM to support developing modular Petri nets. This chapter discusses the programming constructs provided by GPenSIM for the development of modular Petri net models. As discussed in Chap. 4 “GPenSIM for Monolithic Petri nets”, GPenSIM did not support modularization before. GPenSIM was extended to support modularization. The newer version of GPenSIM (version 10) allows modularization so that flexibility (ability to add or change functionality) and comprehensibility (readability) of the models can be improved. Modularization reduces the development time of large Petri net models too, as modelers can separately develop different modules at the same time. Also, modularization increases the robustness (less prone to error) of the models. Also, modules can run faster as they can be executed in parallel on different computers.
