Bukovinian “Malanka” in the general european carnival context

The article reveals Carnival as a product of a pan-European civilization and Catholicism in general is not typical for Eastern Europe. The purpose of the article is to describe the ethnic features of the Bukovina New Year's "Malanka", which has many local variants, which belongs to carnival holidays with bright ethnic and folkloric colors. Scientific novelty. For the sake of preserving and popularizing this unique ritual complex it is worth organizationally to join the Foundation of European Carnival cities (FECC). Conclusions: After the proposed study, we can conclude that the carnival as a product of Western civilization and Catholicism is usually not typical for Eastern Europe. Bukovina New Year's "Malanka" is one of the events of the carnival type with a bright ethnic and national flavor. To preserve and popularize a unique ritual set, it is worthwhile to join the European Carnival Foundation.
