[Induced abortion in France: new legislation and questions from healthcare providers].

2002
Legislative articles on induced abortion (IA) confirmed by law on December 31 1979 were renamed and annexed June 15 2000 as part of public health code legislation. July 4 2001 legislation replaces modifies and completes several articles precedent to the new legislation. The authors present the legislative articles to inform healthcare professionals of changes to the legislative framework regarding IA in France and to offer practical comments from a professional team practicing IA. Immediate changes affect the following areas: from term through 14 weeks pregnancy non-obligatory psychological consultation and adult consent. Other changes come under the framework of a decree upon outpatient IA. Many questions are nonetheless raised for all cases. This paper addresses only IA but the new law also affects tubal ligation contraception and medically warranted IA.
