A historiografia da arquitetura e das cidades, de fato, “importa”? Um balanço sobre algumas histórias transnacionais do espaço construído

2020
Part of the dossier “Atlantic: Transits, Memories and Perspectives” – which, based on discussions in the graduate courses at Escola da Cidade, poses questions for the critical debate of past, present and future relations between America, Africa and Iberian Peninsula – the essay discusses how historiography about architecture and cities has been facing the task of dealing with the circulation of knowledge, people, techniques and discourses, in order to avoid the usual theoretical approaches that use schemes in which the notions of “imperialism”, “domination-subjugation”, “ideas out of place”, “resonance”, “center and periphery” and “importation of models” appear as structures of historiographical writing. To this end, it brings the concepts of transnational history closer to some recent historiographical examples as a way of launching some reflections and challenges.
