A test of parity conservation in the reaction 27Al(p, α)24Mg in the regime of Ericson fluctuations

1990
Abstract For a test of parity conservation in compound nucleus reactions in the Ericson regime we used the reaction 27 Al ( p , α 0,1 ) 24 Mg at ϑ lab = 167.2°. The parity-violating asymmetry was determined at six bombarding energies between 10 and 12 MeV. The analysis is done with the help of the probability distribution of the P-violating reaction amplitude. We determine an upper limit of 1.4 × 10 −3 for the relative average parity-forbidden amplitude with a confidence of 68%.
