Determinación y caracterización de concentraciones de material particulado sedimentable en la Comunidad de Gatazo Grande Cantón Colta por incidencia industrial

2021
The communities of Gatazo Grande, Chico, and Zambrano in the Colta Canton, Chimborazo Province, characterized by their agricultural activities and have a zone of direct influence on primary and industrial activities. In this context, the source of PM emissions is a great problem, since there is no monitoring that allows for the quantification of the effects of particulate matter (PM) emissions. The research allowed determining the concentration of PM (10µm and 2.5µm); by using the Dust Track II equipment; estimating the values of the 14 monitoring points. Samples taken at the different monitoring points, thus filtering the data obtained in a period of 10 days of monitoring, alternating in a period of four days of interval, in two hours 07:30-10:00 and 13:00 - 15:30. Determining a PM concentration of the MP7 monitoring point, spatially close to the emission source, with a value of 0.5072 mg/cm²/month, exceeds the LP, but does not exceed the LP proposed by the TULSMA of 1 mg/cm²/month; the comparison of the concentration of PM2.5 and PM10 with respect to the WHO and TUSLMA, concludes that all the values obtained exceed the WHO's LMP 25 µg/m3, but do not exceed the TULSMA's LPM, nevertheless showing that the concentration levels of PM are high due to the large amounts of material emanating from industrial activities, which transport the atmospheric pollutants over long distances. The geospatial dispersion model determined an adequate precision value to be able to elaborate the MPS and MPV maps, establishing a close relation of the concentration with the climatic and topographic factors. In this way, it is possible to make an approximation to the effects that the constant emission by the industrial activity has on health, in order to take adequate measures against the elaboration of contingency plans in the communities belonging to Gatazo
