Laborversuche zur Fixierung von Mangan und Eisen an Feststoffmatrices durch elektrochemisch initiierte Prozesse

The principles of a new technology are presented which is focussing on the immobilization/mobilization of sediment substances on the basis of electrochemical reactions. By electrodes installed directly at or near the solid phase/water interface a controllable redox barrier is introduced, which is capable of fixing or concentrating pollutants in the solid matrix. These may be specifically mobilized and drained off. By simultaneous measurements of iron and manganese at the interface with and without the influence of electric current, the behaviour of these elements could be studied under various conditions. The benefit of the new method which is currently developed further is the specific in situ transport, concentration and chemical/electrochemical conversion of certain aquatic substances.
