The invention relates to an additive capable of increasing heat value of a household refuse derived fuel. The additive comprises the following materials by weight: 8-15% of calcium oxide, 5-8% of iron oxide, 6%-10% of magnesium hydroxide, 10-15% of calcium carbonate, 35-45% of activated carbon, 20-25% of sawdust and 2-5% manganese dioxide. A preparation method of the additive comprises the steps of making the above materials except the sawdust into powder, and mixing the powder together uniformly according to the above formula. An adding amount of the additive is determined by experiments of the household refuse derived fuel according to different heat values when the additive is added; and an adding proportion is between 1% and 10%. The additive can adjust heat value content for household refuse with different heat values; and a preparation process of the RDF fuel is simplified and a finished product quality of the RDF fuel is greatly increased.
