Quality of reproductive health dynamics in the urban slum of Delhi.

2012
The quality of reproductive health is viewed in the urban slum of Delhi as all women should have access to skilled care during pregnancy along with ensured detection and management of complication and safe delivery. To ascertain the determining factors of reproductive and child health behaviour 400 pregnant and lactating women were interviewed and 10 Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) conducted in the slums of Sunlight colony-II Indira Camp-I Indira Camp-II Indira Camp-III and Sidharth Basti in South Delhi. People are aware of positive reproductive health behavior like ANC registration 3 ANC check up along with 2 TT delivery at health institution PNC and immunization. These facilities are available in the slum areas and are easily accessible. But most of the women were of the view that the quality and management of reproductive health behavior were imperceptible for them at their slum setting. For them the most important dynamics of reproductive health is to address their health needs by the health care providers to whom they believe in and approach to according to their own convenience without much beleaguer. These dynamics are suitably accomplished if the reproductive health care services are always available easily accessible acceptable without any hassle and affordable as per the paying capacity in their given circumstances. It is concluded from the findings that the quality of reproductive child health practices in slum areas has been determined in two ways; i.e. (a) quality of RCH is taken for granted by the health care providers and (b) quality of RCH is understood by the perceptions and beliefs of the consumers and their level of satisfactions. In fact the client satisfaction has got a significant role to determine the quality of reproductive and child health in the urban slums of Delhi.
