Study on the Waterborne Polyurethane Wood Coatings Modified with Polyhedral Oligomeric Silsesquioxane

2014
A new organic / inorganic hybrid material with nanoscale sizes, polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane( POSS),has attracted wide concerns. The performance of the composite was markedly improved after adding only small amounts of POSS to polymers. In this paper, firstly,POSS was synthesized by using"corner-capping"method,and then waterborne polyurethane wood coatings were modified. The composite was characterized by fourier transform infrared( FT-IR),thermo gravimetric analyzer( TGA) and X-ray diffraction( XRD). The contact angles were measured at room temperature. The results showed that POSS was evenly dispersed in paint film, and formed a net structure with organic and inorganic penetrating together. In addition, the heat-resisting and hydrophobic ability of paint film were improved after adding POSS. The mechanical property was increased except adhesion.
