Process for obtaining aqueous polymer dispersions containing colorant by aqueous emulsion polymerization via radicals with ethylenically unsaturated monomers in the presence of radical initiators, using at least part of monomers in an emulsion of water in oil E1 whose disperse phase comprises at least one oil-soluble dye, wherein the disperse phase of E1 is formed essentially by monomer droplets containing dye with a diameter <500 nm.
