Factors which limit production of pea in Burundi

1988
In Burundi, the cool high altitude areas above 1800 m are the most suitable for growing pea, but average yields are less than 600 kg ha-1. Soils are poor in mineral nutrients, and acidic (pH 4.0–5.0). These effects, compounded by aluminium toxicity, limit the productivity of pea and other crops. At lower elevations, temperatures are supra-optimal.
