Efficiency Analysis of LCC-S and S-S Inductive Power Transfer Considering Switching Device and Component Losses

2020
Inductive power transfer (IPT) technology has been widely used in different areas nowadays. Several compensation topologies have been proposed to enhance system performance, such as efficiency. Among all compensation topologies, inductor-capacitor-capacitor-series (LCC-S) and series-series (S-S) are two prevalent selections. One common view is that, compared to S-S, LCC-S will lead to a lower efficiency due to extra components. Nonetheless, by comparing the efficiency of LCC-S and S-S topologies under the same conditions, this paper reveals that the efficiency of LCC-S is not necessarily lower, when considering losses of switching devices and other components comprehensively. Simulation and experiment results provided in this article also verify that LCC-S can achieve higher efficiency than S-S under the same conditions.
