The ramp test - its origins, development and application

2010
The use of high direct voltage to assess the condition of stator windings of rotating machines can be traced back 60 years. Initially a step-voltage test in several forms, the advantages of applying the voltage in a continuous ramp function soon became apparent. A well regulated voltage supply is a prerequisite to good results. Many but not all defects in groundwall insulation can be detected nondestructively.
