Influence of additive on melting temperature and Al_2O_3 inclusion absorption for thin slab continuous casting mould flux

2010
The effects of addition of different additive on the melting temperature change after absorption of Al2O3 by the mold flux and on the absorptivity of the mold flux additive for the Al2O3 have been studied. Experimental results show that the melting temperature tends to decrease as the addition of Li2CO3 increases from 4 % to 10 %, addition of NaF and Na2CO3 the melting temperature tends to rise and addition of man-made cryolite and borax the melting temperature tends to rise when addition of Al2O3 increases from 3 % to 6 % and at the juncture of 6 % Al2O3 the melting temperature shows a downtrend obviously. The order of influence of different additives on the absorptivity of mold flux for the Al2O3 lines up as Li2CO3NaFNa2CO3man-made cryoliteborax. The experimental results are of certain significance in guiding the design of the thin slab CC mold flux.
