SOLUBLE SALT AND PH DETERMINATION ON HIGHWAY MATERIALS

Methods of determining the total soluble salt content and ph of highway materials are examined. It is shown that methods vary widely and that the results must therefore also be expected to differ. This is borne out by a comparison of the results obtained on a number of basecourse materials by three different methods. Electrical conductivity measurements on the saturated soil fines paste are tentatively recommended for routine estimations of total soluble salts. (A) /TRRL/
