Genetic Variability and Association of Characters at Different Doses of Nitrogen and Sowing Dates in Capsularis Jute

1983
In an attempt to search the selection potentiality of different yield contributing characters of capsularis jute at different nitrogen levels, it was found that, effective selection for superior plant would be least variable if selection is made at N80 level. And since there was a trend of significant, positive correlation between plant height and base diameter with wood weight, separately as well as among themselves, selection for any one of the three characters, is likely to generate a correlated response over the remaining two characters. Path-coefficient analysis showed that, at N80 level, effective selection would be possible if base diameter followed by plant height and wood weight are taken as the criteria of selection. On the other hand, from pooled path analysis it was found that wood weight followed by base diameter and plant height should be considered as the criteria of selection.
