Sol-gel processing of ceramic pigments, Part 2: New method preparation of mazarin blue

2005
Mazarin blue cobalt olivine was synthesised by the ceramic and sol-gel methods. The initial reactants for the sol-gel method were colloidal solutions of SiO 2 and cobalt sulphate, and for the ceramic method commercial products like SiO 2 and Co 3 O 4 . The formation and evolution of Co 2 SiO 4 were observed by X-ray analysis and IR spectroscopy. A comparative study of pigment synthesis by solid state reaction and the sol-gel method showed that the process of olivine formation depends on the synthesis method. The chromatic properties of the pigments were tested in industrial glazes for ceramic tiles atZorka-Nonmetals, Sabac, Serbia.
