Minimal Invasive Extracorporeal Circulation Systems

2019
Exposure to an extracorporeal circuit is associated with contact activation, inflammation, and hemodilution. The evolvement of extracorporeal circuits over time has resulted in the establishment of minimal invasive extracorporeal circulation (MiECC) systems, which are characterized by relatively low hemodilution levels, less contact activation and surface exposure, a reduction in perioperative bleeding, and low anticoagulation strategies. All contribute to blood conservation and may be beneficial as part of a patient blood management program.
