Note: Structure and Magnetic Properties of a Heteronuclear Cobalt-Cerium complex: [CoCe(CH2C(CH3)COO)5(phen)(C2H5OH)]2

A novel heteronuclear complex, [CoCe(CH2C(CH3)COO)5(phen)(C2H5OH)]2 (where phen=1,10-phenanthroline), has been prepared and its structure determined by X-ray diffraction methods. The complex crystallizes in the triclinic system with space group P&1macr;, a=12.0982(8), b=12.6068(9), c=14.4492(10)A, α=67.388(1), β=70.816(1), γ=64.480(1)°. The structure was refined to R=0.045 for 5987 observed reflections (I>2σ(I)). The complex is a discrete tetranuclear molecule bridged by α-methylacrylato groups. Magnetic properties of the complex were also measured and are discussed.
