Band broadening design of a ku band planar slot array antenna

2017
A band broadening design of a Ku band planar slot array antenna consisting of slotted waveguides is proposed in this paper. Compared to the initial design which applies series feeding networks consisting of centered-inclined slots located on the wide faces of the feeding waveguides, the band broadening design of the planar slot array antenna divides radiating waveguides into more segments and applies parallel feeding networks based on H-plane Tee. The initial design and the band broadening design are both simulated with a FEM electromagnetic simulation software. The simulation results of the initial design and the band broadening design are presented and compared. The bandwidth of the initial design is 3.2%, when the simulated VSWR is less than 2, and the simulated relative side lobe level is lower than −20dB. The bandwidth of the band broadening design is 8.3%, when the simulated VSWR is less than 2, and the simulated relative side lobe level is lower than −20dB. Therefore, the band broadening design is double the band width of the initial design.
