The treatment of Ghrelin on cardiac cachexia in congestive heart failure

2012
Ghrelin can promote growth-hormone releasing, vascular relaxing and lower blood pressure to improve heart performance.Ghrelin can also increase appetite, gain body weight and involve in regulating the metabolism of glucose and fat as well.Ghrelin can improve the function of blood vessel endothelium, inhibit inflammatory cell factor and myocardial hypertrophy so as to prevent myocardial remodeling. As an endogenous protective factor against myocardial damage,Ghrelin,by various mechanisms, can improve cardiac function in heart failure and cause positive energy balance, resulting in attenuating the development of cardiac cachexia in chronic heart failure. With its beneficial effect in against metabolic remodeling,Ghrelin may be a potential therapeutic approach to cachectic heart failure. As a monitoring index,Ghrelin may be used in evaluating the severity of heart failure and prognosis of the patients with heart failure.
