Specific features of the martensitic transformation in melt-quenched Fe-Ni alloys

1999
Specific features of the process of martensitic transformation in the course of cooling below room temperature in the melt-quenched Fe-31.4% Ni alloy are considered. The ribbon 50-60 μm thick prepared by melt-spinning is found to represent a natural composite in which the formation of isothermal and surface martensite is suppressed, while the athermal martensite is formed, with other conditions being equal, at lower temperatures as compared to the alloy subjected to a recrystallization annealing.
