Gallbladder Cancer and Extrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma

2018
Surgical resection improves survival for patients with gallbladder cancer and extraheptatic cholangiocarcinoma and should be considered in the absence of metastatic disease. Adjuvant chemoradiation following surgery has demonstrated benefit in multiple retrospective studies and is generally recommended for advanced T-stage, node-positive, or margin-positive disease. Definitive chemoradiation is used in patients with unresectable non-metastatic disease. This chapter outlines treatment planning approaches for adjuvant and definitive radiation as a component of multimodality therapy for patients with non-metastatic gallbladder cancer and extrahepatic cholangicarcinoma.
