Advances in long duration, high altitude flights

1981
Abstract During the past two decades there have been many significant advances made in the state-of-the-art of scientific ballooning. High altitude long duration flights, of moderate to heavy payloads, however, have proven to be the one requirement of the scientific community that has been the most difficult to meet. Conventional and cryogenic ballasting systems, super pressure balloons and hybrid balloon systems are some of the approaches that have been taken to maintain experiments at altitude for extended periods of time. The results of those development efforts and various methods of data retrieval will be discussed.
