Tomography velocity modeling and application in marine carbonate reservoirs

2011
With the increasing demand of oil and gas resources caused by world economic development, the exploration and development of carbonate reservoir turn to hot research topics. In order to realize the accurate pre-stack depth migration in carbonate areas, the corresponding velocity modeling methods must be researched first. This paper has proposed a tomography velocity modeling method based on image gathers, which uses the angle domain common imaging gathers (ADCIGs) by pre-stack depth migration with wave equation double square root operator as the gathers of velocity analysis. It can reflect the coupling relation of velocity and depth accurately and nearly have no image artifact caused by multi-path, making the precision of velocity modeling more high. Examples of the synthetic dataset and real dataset show that this method can solve the velocity problem of marine carbonate exploration areas.
